how to back up digital photos Tag

Recently someone contacted me to discuss how I could help them with their photo collection. They mentioned that they had just been on a 3 week holiday and had come home with 18,000 (yes thousand) photos from that trip. On hearing that number I knew instinctively that was too many!! Too many to store, too many to use and too many to enjoy. Surely this kind of digital photo overload could only be a burden. Just thinking about that number made me tired. So, I started to ponder and research how can I help highlight the importance of taking fewer photos.

Winter has set in and with it many of us are spending the night curled up in front of the TV.  Instead of watching the same boring old shows, why don’t you have a good old fashioned 'slide' night?

Do you love a good catch up with old friends? Can you remember the last time you took a stroll down memory lane? Do you have hundreds of old slides or prints taking up valuable storage space generating inches of dust? We can help you prepare everything you need to enjoy a 'slide' night the modern way and we have some fun theme ideas to inspire you.

For those of you that visited The Office Space - Officeworks Blog to read our input on how to 'Unclutter and organised your workspace' you would be familiar with our 'organise > utilise > enjoy' theory. Tagline - organise utilise enjoy___ After last weeks Time Trial video we wanted to remind you of the benefits of organising your photos by applying the same 'organise > utilise > enjoy' theory to this post about photo organising.

Remember waaaay back in May we promised we would do a post covering off some of our most FAQ about how to prepare for a digital organising project?  Well a bunch of stuff happened i.e. LIFE and I was delayed in writing it, sorry team. Finally as promised here it is using a specific scenario unique to one of our fantastic clients. Readers - meet Pete,  Pete is a husband and father who plays in a band and runs 3 businesses.  Anyone in the Sutherland Shire looking for a GREAT personal trainer you should do yourself a favour and check out 100 Candles Training Pete had images on 2 iPhones, 5 memory cards and 1 PC that he wanted organised into a useable system.  Read on to see a short video interview I did with Pete BEFORE we started organising.

Image I have heard three stories recently of friends losing their data and images from their computers - the computer ‘dies’ and all those precious files and photos are no longer readily accessible. Most of us can relate and have had some terrifying technical glitch happen to us at some stage. With today’s technology I would hope that most of you would have at least one reliable back up of your valuable data – either on another hard drive or saved to cloud storage. But it is amazing how many people don’t have any external storage or who haven’t backed up their data for really long periods of time. Here is one of those recent stories that a friend shared with me only last week:

There was a 5th step to our photo filing FileOsophy which we hadn’t included as part of the MOON walk as it pertains to both images and data.  It also didn't fit nicely with our little acronym but ultimately we believed that it needed a bit more weight and importance surrounding it.  WHY?  Well because data loss does not discriminate.  Good karma will only get you so far and good guys can experience data loss as readily as the next guy. Digital Photo Filing FileOsophy Step 5: BACK UP,  backing up, protecting your precious memories, saving for the future call it what you will…. We like to think of it as Back Up or Die. Sounds pretty ominous doesn’t it… back up or die?  Well if you remember the emotions we stirred up when you watched our video then you need to read this post.
