Why scroll when you can SEARCH!

Why scroll when you can SEARCH!

Have you always dreamed of being able to find the exact photo you want, when you want it, but feel overwhelmed by thousands of photos and give up because who has the time to keeping scrolling!!

Today’s blog tells the story of how I have applied keywords (metadata) to my photos bringing an end to tedious scrolling.

Recently we farewelled our backyard cubby house.  The kids outgrew it and in the spirit of eco friendly “reuse” we wanted to pass it on to a new family to be enjoyed by younger children.

When I saw the open area I realised just how much had changed in our backyard over 8 years.  My memory keeping cells started to buzz and I snapped a photo of the now empty space.  I wanted to document the evolution of the backyard and include a series of photos telling this story in my 2020 Family Photo Book.

Now I knew I had taken numerous photos of the backyard over the 8 years, including on the day we built the cubby house.  Whilst I remembered that it was in January or February when we got it (for the kids birthdays), I could NOT remember which year.

Rather than scrolling through 8 years of photos with an eye on each January/February I was able to find the photos I wanted for my collage easily by searching my Digital Photo Hub (DPH) via the keyword ‘cubby house’.

Viola!  I had a selection of photos to choose from in less than 1 minute!  No mindless scrolling or racking my memory, I simply typed the word and with one click, I had what I needed.

[…] Metadata is information that is digitally attached to your images and can help identify key information. This data makes it easier for you to search for your images and helps tell the story of the photo. Photo organising software allows you to embed this information into your image files.  We highly recommend Adobe Bridge – read more about it and sign up for recommended training here  […]
